2km from the campsite:
BIDART, where land meets sea

Bidart is a seaside resort on the Basque coast that is highly prized. And rightly so, with no fewer than 6 beaches to keep you entertained. We strongly recommend the Pavillon Royal beach because at low tide it’s a fantastic venue for exploration and kids’ games!

Bidart boasts a huge golf course: the Ilbarritz golf course. Spanning more than 7 hectares! Didier, our night watchman and golf instructor, offers lessons for all levels: beginner, expert… enquire at reception on the campsite!
At the foot of the Pavillon Royal beach, you’ll find the Lagoondy surf school : lessons and equipment hire for all! Have a little tour of the market every Saturday morning too. At the same time, you’ll get the chance to discover a typically Basque city centre! At Bidart, you’ll also find plenty to keep your kids amused with the Bid’A’parc amusement park, with the citypark and skate park for teenagers. The crazy golf is great fun for all the family too.
To explore: the Moulin de Bassilour is a very charming spot with its authentic windmill dating back to 1787!
Also, don’t forget the coastal path setting out from Bidart

4km from the campsite:
the designer chic and charm of BIARRITZ

Biarritz is a city packed with resources. It’s THE on-trend seaside resort!
Enjoy the golf course, the numerous beaches for surfing or tanning, its seaside casino… stroll its shopping streets, take the little train to explore the city… visit the aquarium

We recommend:

  • The Grande Plage beach, in the midst of the city centre. A surf, tanning and shopping spot, as well as a great venue to get something to eat and quench your thirst.
  • The Côte des Basques (Basque coast). A famous surf spot!
  • The Rocher de la Vierge (virgin rock). Affording fabulous views across the ocean.
  • The fishing port and its creek, below the church of St Eugénie.

With regards to restaurants and bars, there’s an extensive range.

5km from the campsite:
typical and magical GUETHARY!

Guéthary is located between Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz and is the smallest village on the Basque coast. Here you’ll discover ‘the terrace’: a balcony on the sea. In the shade, in the peace and quiet, you’re sure to be treated to a feast for the eyes…. Don’t forget to have a look at the picturesque little port within the dry dock.

Guéthary was a whaling port, a fishing village and today it’s a seaside resort where the surfers know the waves of Parlementia inside out!

8km from the campsite:
BAYONNE, traditions and character

Bayonne… at the foot of the Pyrenees… a picturesque city… a city that will appeal to you through its dynamism, its elegance… and its festivals!
In the midst of the city centre, do your shopping, admire the cathedral, visit the chocolate workshop and the Basque museum. And why not walk the quayside bordering the River Nive and chill out with a drink and some tapas.

We recommend:

  • The coursic. A boat enabling you to explore the ‘country’. The possibility of a 2hr trip and a day of discovery with a meal aboard the boat.
  • The tuktuk with commentary as you ride around the city!
  • A rugby match to discover this city’s iconic sport and a truly extraordinary atmosphere.

15km from the campsite:
a day in the corsair city at SAINT JEAN DE LUZ

Make the most of this fully pedestrianised city centre to do some shopping, which is especially nice in the covered markets. No stress, the shops are open year-round on Sunday. Don’t forget to have a look at the church too; it really is fantastic. If you’re passionate about history, visit Louis XIV’s house.

Or why not have a little picnic on the main beach where you’ll be able to get your sports fix: surfing, fishing, paddling…

Opposite the main beach you’ll be able to make out the fort of Socoa. As you look at the ocean, on your right is the Sainte Barbe headland!
In Saint Jean de Luz, those who are fond of food will rejoice…
The ‘Trésors des Pirates’ sweet shop, the patisseries of the Confiserie Paries or the Maison Adam and the pub du corsair (corsair pub)…

28km from the campsite:
discover the authenticity of the village of ESPELETTE

Espelette is a typically Basque village which has retained all its traditions: the authenticity of the houses, its colours, its castle, its washhouses…

The village is recognised worldwide for its peppers, which adorn the village’s numerous houses as they dry.

The many shops in the shopping street offer you all manner of local produce and you’ll be able to sample the famous pepper!

The market, on Wednesday morning is a must should you wish to bring back fresh pepper and other local produce. Espelette is a very dynamic village and has a wealth of entertainment on offer: Festival of pepper, the Foire au Pottok (pony breeder meet), the dance festival, the Festival de la Force basque (a test of strength for the local farmers) or the Course des crêtes (crest run)…

20 minutes from the campsite:
the change of scenery in Spain

Visit Urdazubi and Zugarramurdi for its caves, its witches and its houses…

San Sebastien boasts an extraordinary panorama across the La Concha bay. Stroll around the old town, look at the fishing boats in the port, visit the aquarium and the Miramar park. Make the most of your day, take the hop on and hop off bus, a towel for the beach, your camera for the bay, a few pennies for a few extravagances and a good pair of walking shoes!

We strongly recommend Irun for its shopping centre and above all Hondarribia. To get there, you can take the boat from Hendaye. Hondarribia (Fontarrabie) is a fortified town still spared of having too many shops! There are plenty of options to eat at low prices too: Antxina, Arroka Berri… Don’t forget your towels: the beach is well worth a look!
